How Do Spark™ Aligners Work?
Every orthodontic journey begins with a thorough evaluation to include ultra-high resolution images of your teeth and oral structures. Dr. Valeriano will evaluate your x-rays, assess your specific orthodontic requirements and discuss your options for treatment.
During your initial consultation, Dr.Valeriano will determine if you are a candidate for clear aligner treatment and take a digital scan of your teeth. This scan allows Dr. Valeriano to create a digital treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
Once Dr. Valeriano approves the treatment plan, the Spark™ aligners are manufactured, and you can begin treatment as soon as they are delivered.
You will receive a series of aligners to wear continuously, or at least 22 hours a day. As you switch aligners, your teeth will gradually move into their proper position creating your new, beautiful smile. Spark™ Clear Aligners must be worn precisely as Dr. Valeriano prescribes to get the best results possible, and this requires a significant level of dedication from each patient.

How to Take Care of Your Spark™ Clear Aligners
Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of clear aligner therapy is having the ability to remove aligners to brush and floss your teeth. One of the main hygiene goals during orthodontic treatment with clear aligners is to reduce the amount of bacteria that is trapped on and between the teeth to help prevent decay. As a patient using clear aligners, you have the opportunity to maintain excellent hygiene habits and this will have a direct positive impact on the success of your orthodontic treatment. At Valeriano Orthodontics, we recommend the following tips to help keep your aligners clean and clear throughout your orthodontic treatment.
- Rinse your aligners with cool water every time you remove them from your mouth. This will help prevent the buildup of dried saliva which is a source of bacteria and can cause a cloudiness in your aligners.
- Refrain from using hot water to clean or rinse aligners as the material composition is delicate and susceptible to damage from high temperatures and this may alter the shape and fit of the aligner.
- Refrain from using toothpaste to clean aligners. Toothpaste tends to be abrasive and this will mar the finish on the aligner causing it to appear cloudy.
You may use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently remove any food particles or saliva from the retainer.
Avoid soaking aligners in mouthwash as this can discolor the material.
Always place clean aligners on clean teeth. If you are unable to brush your teeth, rinse your mouth with water after you eat to remove food particles. Aligners work better when they fit properly on clean teeth.
